April 26 (UPI) -- A restaurant in Oregon created a Ninja Turtles-inspired pizza made using more than 100 different types of cheese.

Scotties Pizza Parlor concocted the Centouno Formaggio, or 101-cheese, pizza as part of Portland Pizza week.

The restaurant said it was inspired by the Novantanove Formaggio or 99-cheese pizza from the 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film which was brought to life by champion pizzamaker Johnny di Francesco.

"This year we pay our own tribute to the Turtles, and with respect to Mr.Francesco, we must out-cheese his 99-cheese pizza and earn a title of our own!" The restaurant said

Owner Scottie Rivera told Fox News they had already decided to make a pizza with 100 types of cheese, but decided to take it one step further by adding part-skim mozzarella inside the crust.

The final pizza featured whole milk mozzarella, a shredded 55-cheese blend, 36 soft cheeses, and a blend of 9 grated dry cheeses provided by Greg Hessel of Cowbell Cheesemonger.

"We had to first figure out how much total weight in cheese would be worthwhile for Greg to pull off each block of cheese that he has in the warehouse," osaid. "Based on that, we reverse-engineered the balance and proportion we wanted, to dull any overwhelming funky flavors that we might get having a lot of cheese on pizza."

Patrons were able to sample up to two slices of the unique pizza for $2 a slice or purchase a whole pie for $16.

"The goal was to make it taste like a regular slice of cheese pizza," Rivera said. "With the first bite, you don't know what to expect, so you can almost mistake it for a regular slice. Then you chew a little more and you start to get a lot of character here: there's things going on, it's almost hard to place."
