April 26 (UPI) -- A pair of wildlife rescuers in Australia were called to investigate a dead kangaroo and ended up rescuing a newborn joey from the marsupial's pouch.

The video, posted to YouTube by Unheard Voices, shows a couple freeing the newborn joey, or "pinkie," from the pouch of its fallen mother Monday in Sydney.

The footage shows a woman carefully removing the baby from the pouch before the man filming helps her cut it free from its mother's teat.

"We were called out on a rescue to a dead mother with a joey (pinkie) still alive in the pouch," the rescuers wrote. "We retrieved from its mothers pouch, and sent him off to a more experienced carer of the little ones to give him the best chance of survival possible."
