April 25 (UPI) -- A Virginia police officer used a little bit of animal wizardry to reunite a magician with his lost assistant, a pet cockatoo.

Fairfax County Police said Officer Mike Thompson responded Friday to a report of what appeared to be an escaped pet bird in a tree.

"Walked up to the bird, whistled at it, flew out of the tree, came to ground and it walked up to me," Thompson told WUSA-TV.

The department tweeted a photo of the cockatoo perching on the laptop computer in Thompson's patrol car.

The 17-year-old cockatoo, named Sol, was reunited with owner Edgar Vidaurre.

Vidaurre, who uses Sol in his magician's act, said he took the bird with him to a soccer game earlier Friday and forgot that he had left the cockatoo perched in a tree when he left the game.
