April 25 (UPI) -- An 8-foot alligator run over by a car on a Florida road is receiving medical attention after being wrestled into submission by a reality TV star.

Paul Bedard, Jr., a professional alligator trapper and star of Animal Planet's Gator Boys, said he responded Sunday morning to an intersection in Tamarac after receiving a call through the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission's Nuisance Alligator Hotline.

"It appeared that maybe it was hit by a car, because it had some road rash from the nose up its spine," Broward Sheriff's Office Sgt. Will Medina, who also responded to the reports of an alligator in the road, told WPLG-TV.

Video recorded at the scene shows Bedard working to contain the reptile, which puts up a struggle despite its injuries.

"It was snapping at him several times," Medina said. "This man was there for over 9 minutes attempting to trap this alligator. It was an amazing sight to watch him trap the alligator."

Bedard was eventually able to load the gator into his pickup truck and take it to receive medical treatment.

"He has some broken bones in his back," Bedard told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "We'll probably do some X-rays. We're going to make sure it's nothing spinal."
