"It appeared that maybe it was hit by a car, because it had some road rash from the nose up its spine," Broward Sheriff's Office Sgt. Will Medina, who also responded to the reports of an alligator in the road, told WPLG-TV.
Video recorded at the scene shows Bedard working to contain the reptile, which puts up a struggle despite its injuries.
"It was snapping at him several times," Medina said. "This man was there for over 9 minutes attempting to trap this alligator. It was an amazing sight to watch him trap the alligator."
Bedard was eventually able to load the gator into his pickup truck and take it to receive medical treatment.
"He has some broken bones in his back," Bedard told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "We'll probably do some X-rays. We're going to make sure it's nothing spinal."
