April 18 (UPI) -- Traffic came to a halt on a highway in India when drivers yielded to a pride of at least 12 lions that took a walk across the roadway.

Witnesses to the scene on the Pipavav-Rajula highway in Amreli, Gujarat, said the lions were stopped at the side of the road for about 15 minutes, appearing as if they planned to cross, until the vehicles stopped to allow the big cats to make their way across the roadway.

The video shows about 12 lions crossing the road before one turns back the way they came.

Media reports indicate many Asiatic lions in the area have been killed by cars and trains.
