April 12 (UPI) -- A stray cat interrupted the Miami Marlins' first home baseball game of the season by crawling into a mechanized statue behind an outfield wall.

The Major League Baseball team shared video of the gray cat which was first found hiding beneath an outfield wall as a stadium employee and Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton attempted to guide it out through a door in the wall.

"A cat intrusion on National Pet Day? How purrr-fect," the team wrote on Twitter.

The skittish cat sprinted away from the grasp of its would-be captors and traveled along the outfield wall before scaling a fence in front of an LED video screen onto the mechanized Home Run statue.

The team nicknamed the cat "Rally Cat," as it appeared on the field after Marlins outfielder Marcell Ozuna hit his second home run of the game.

"At first, the cat had me a little worried," Ozuna told the Miami Herald. "It stayed up there for four innings. It hid its head into the [sculpture] and I was like 'what are you doing?' I didn't see it after the ninth inning when I looked up there."

Shortly after the cat entered the statue, the official Twitter account for Marlins Park announced that use of the machine would be suspended until the cat was removed safely.

"We have suspended use of our home run sculpture for the time being and are monitoring Rally Cat, who appears to be safe at the moment," the stadium said.

The elusive cat was eventually rescued from the sculpture, but did not remain in custody for long.

"Upon being rescued safely, Rally Cat's elusiveness persisted, and it again ran away – this time into the night," Marlins Park said on Twitter. "Rally on, Rally Cat!"
