March 24 (UPI) -- A pair of jet skiers rescued a sea turtle they spotted tangled in a balloon string off the coast of California.

Video shared to YouTube channel Wild Spirit Nature Channel showed videographers Angel Hernandez and Bryce Trevett riding their jet skis and filming whales when they spotted the loggerhead sea turtle struggling to break free from the balloon string.

The two men quickly jumped into the water and used a knife to cut the distressed turtle free.

The pair released the sea turtle, which they named "Crash" after the character form the Disney film Finding Nemo, back into the wild.

"This is why you always want to throw away your balloons after your parties," Trevett said, according to NBC Los Angeles. "Sea turtles, they like to eat things like jelly fish, so it's pretty easy to mistake a plastic bag or one of these shiny balloons for jelly fish."

Hernandez and Trevett said they often see balloons in the ocean and hoped the video will encourage people to properly dispose of balloons and other trash to prevent causing harm to wildlife.

"It's amazing," Trevett said. "We feel good we reached that many people with that message... just with that video."
