March 24 (UPI) -- A Florida diver who noticed a lemon shark acting oddly ended up removing a massive hook from the ocean creature's belly.

Josh Eccles said he was diving this week with Emerald Charters in Jupiter when one of the lemon sharks swimming with the humans appeared to be trying to get his attention.

Eccles said the shark was repeatedly bumping and nudging him, leading him to give the big fish a once-over to see if something was wrong.

The diver ended up pulling out a massive hook, saving the shark from the possibility of a life-threatening infection.

Eccles posted a photo to Facebook showing the size of the rusty hook as it compares to his hand.
