March 9 (UPI) -- A wave-jumping dolphin landed directly atop an Australian surfer and the collision was caught on camera by a witness.

The video shows Sam Yoon paddling on his surfboard earlier this week off Duranbah Beach, near Gold Coast in New South Wales, when a pod of dolphins comes jumping around the waves.

One of the dolphins leaps high into the air and ends up landing directly on Yoon.

"You see that, he landed on my head, shoulder and back," Yoon told 9News.

The dolphin appears to try to angle its body in the air to avoid the crash, but the movement comes too late.

"I knew that he realized he's got to do something too, and I was like no way I can get away from this," Yoon said. "After it happened, you know what, they communicated to each other that every time I'm paddling they coming, they supposed to jump, they would be getting away from me."

Yoon said he was not injured in the accident, which he said will make a great story to share with friends and family.

"I've never seen it happen to anyone before," he said.

A pod of more careful dolphins were filmed late last month riding waves with surfers at New South Wales' Tallow Beach. None of the humans and ocean mammals collided in that encounter.
