Man falls 40 feet down Denver chimney during parkour session

Feb. 22 (UPI) -- A Colorado man is facing trespassing charges after he fell 40 feet down the chimney of a loft building while filming a parkour video on the roof.

Dustin Hinkle, 26, said he and some friends were doing parkour, which involves treating real-world environments as an obstacle course, on the roof of Denver City Lofts when he dropped down onto a chimney and fell through.

"We were just trying to have some fun, and I jumped off, hung off the edge and my feet were only two feet above the other one, and I dropped down, and I fell through the top of it," Hinkle told KCNC-TV.

Hinkle dropped about 40 feet until he was caught by a cable.

It took firefighters about two hours to rescue Hinkle. The Denver Fire Department tweeted photos of firefighters cutting through the brick chimney to rescue the daredevil.

Hinkle was treated at a hospital for minor injuries before being jailed on a trespassing charge. His companions, Jayce Anderson, 23, and Mary Jo McHugh, 20, were charged with trespassing in addition to charges of interference of a police officer after they allegedly ran from police.

"I'm extremely sorry and I'll do whatever it takes to help fix it, I've done construction, I mean if they want me to volunteer to help fix what I caused I have no problem doing that," Hinkle told KMGH-TV.
