Feb. 21 (UPI) -- A University of Central Florida student took an academic approach to responding to his ex-girlfriend's four-page apology letter -- he graded and returned it.

Nick Lutz posted photos to Twitter showing the letter he received from his ex-girlfriend, Elizabeth, after he called an end to their relationship.

Lutz used a red pen to mark up the letter like a teacher would, including critiques of the letter's handwriting, grammar, and structure, as well as questioning the honesty of its content and the presence of "useless fillers."

Elizabeth writes she has "no reason to hide, lie, or hold anything back" from Lutz, who responded: "If there is no reason to lie, why isn't the truth being told?"

Lutz gave the letter a 61/100 score -- a D-.

"Long intro, short conclusion. Strong hypothesis, but nothing to back it up," Lutz wrote. "Details are important. If you want to be believed, back it up with proof. You claimed that cheating never occurred, but place blame on yourself -- then what for? Need to stop contradicting your own story and pick a side. While the gesture is appreciated, I would prefer details over statements. Revision for half credit will be accepted."

Lutz said he ended his relationship with Elizabeth because of her secretive and suspicious behavior.

"Four months in she started hiding her phone and I heard she had code names for guys in her contacts list," Lutz told WPLG-TV.
