Feb. 20 (UPI) -- A Jeep driving through a South African national park was chased for more than 1-1/2 miles by a rampaging bull elephant.

A video filmed last month by a passenger in the Jeep shows the elephant chasing the Jeep down a paved road through Kruger National Park.

The passenger can be heard pleading with the driver to speed up as the elephant gains on the vehicle.

The filmer said the pachyderm chased the Jeep for more than 1-1/2 miles before giving up on catching the vehicle.

The filmer theorized the bull elephant was going through musth, a period of increased reproductive hormones in male elephants that often leads to a rise in highly aggressive behavior.
