Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A cyclist participating in a long distance race on New Zealand's South Island captured the moment he and his fellow racers were almost "steamrolled by a herd of deer."

Adam Wilson posted a video to Instagram showing what happened Monday when he and about 10 other riders were attempting The Red Bull Defiance race through the hills of Wanaka.

The video shows the mountain bikers taking a treacherous trail when a massive herd of deer starts streaming across their path at a high speed.

"No snakes, crocodiles, or poisonous spiders in #newzealand. You'd assume going mountain biking is pretty safe until you nearly get steamrolled by a herd of deer," Wilson wrote.

He said none of the cyclists were injured by the "around 100 deer."

"Just a really close call. They just kept coming, there were some many of them, it was a full stampede," Wilson told 1NewsNow.
