A man was riding Braga, the 15-year-old horse, along a street in Southwest Miami-Dade County when a vehicle driving by at high speed scared the horse into the ditch, which was covered by vegetation, WSVN reported.
The man was not injured in the fall and was able to climb out of the ditch, as fire and animal rescue crews arrived at the scene to hoist the horse up onto the even land.
"On a call like this, it's nice, because our veterinarian is on call, and he actually arrived before any of the operations units did," one of the fire rescue crew members said. "He was able to assess the scene, and then the first crews started to arrive, so they could assist him with that."
Fire crews blindfolded the horse to calm him down and used ropes and a sling to lift him out of the hole.
It was determined that he was uninjured in the fall and was able to be escorted back home by his owner without further incident.
