DULLES, Va., Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Firefighters in Virginia conducted "a unique ice rescue" when they were called to assist with a distressed goose stranded on the ice of a frozen pond.

The goose, which firefighters said may have been sick or injured, appeared unable to get itself off of the ice.

"After trying several methods of retrieving the goose, Rescue 607 donned their ice rescue suits and went out and retrieved him," the Facebook post said.

The goose was turned over to Wildlife Vet Care for rehabilitation.
