WINSLOW, Maine, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- A traveling zoo based in Maine said its star camel serves another, even more important role behind the scenes -- "seeing eye camel" for a blind horse.

Ed Papsis of the Pony X-Press Zoo in Winslow said a horse named Dolly has been a part of their stable of animals on and off for about 10 years, and the equine recently went blind.

Papsis said Caesar the camel, one of the zoo's most popular animals, was in need of a companion animal, so they decided to try to solve two problems at once by introducing him to Dolly.

He said the two animals started sharing a pen and quickly became "the best of friends."

"We put the horse in there and she just kind of bonded with him and he bonded with her," Papsis told WGME-TV. "She's probably the only horse that has a Seeing Eye camel."
