ST. LOUIS, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- A Missouri mechanic searching for the origin of a "loud squeak" under the hood of an SUV discovered a small bird living in the engine air filter housing.

Daniel Jaeger posted a video to YouTube showing the Jeep Cherokee that came into his shop with a complaint of "loud squeaking" under the hood.

Jaeger says he was nearly ready to say he was unable to find the cause of the issue until he heard a scratching noise while the engine wasn't running.

The mechanic says he initially believed there was a mouse or other rodent moving around inside the engine, but he removes the engine air filter housing to reveal the unusual squatter -- a small bird.

The bird perches on Jaeger's finger.

"I can't believe how calm this guy is," Jaeger says. "I mean, he's probably terrified."

The bird shows off the "squeak" that was the source of the Jeep owner's complaint before being released outside.
