POCATELLO, Idaho, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Rescue crews in Idaho worked to save a horse who became trapped on a ledge after falling from a cliff.

Bannock County Sheriff shared a photo of the horse stranded in the middle of a rock formation on the cliff near near Portneuf Gap.

"Horses usually don't get caught in situations like this," Bill Jons of the Bannock County Sheriff's Office told the Idaho State Journal. "The horse worked with us pretty good. It was just a tight squeeze for him to get out of."

The horse fell 12 feet from the cliff landing between the black lava rocks, where FM Construction owner Kevin Fay used a backhoe to dump gravel into the nearby crevice to allow the horse to climb out on its own.

The horse escaped the situation without sustaining any major injuries, suffering just a few bumps and scratches.

"He was a lucky horse," Fay said. "All and all, it turned out pretty good. The only other way to get him out of there was with a crane."
