"You can hear my blinker is on... you can also see the opposing traffic pass by," Hughes wrote in the video's description.
A driver in Prius approaches Hughes from the rear and it soon becomes apparent that the hybrid car is not slowing.
Hughes started driving again using his car's "instant acceleration" feature, which allowed him to quickly reach a high enough speed to prevent a collision with the other vehicle.
The driver detailed what happened after the video cuts out.
"The Prius came to a near complete stop before continuing on at a substantial following distance. I eventually turned on to a side street on the right about a half-mile down the road in order to turn around," he wrote.
"This rear facing wide angle video doesn't do the acceleration justice," Hughes wrote. "Probably not many other cars out there that could have done this successfully. I was back up to nearly the speed limit (55 MPH) by just after the time this video cut off and by the time the Prius was nearly stopped in the space I was previously."
