RIVERSIDE, Calif., Oct. 28 (UPI) -- A California animal shelter said workers are currently caring for a very unusual pair of inseparable best friends, a pig and a sheep.

The Riverside County Department of Animal Services said a county animal control officer picked up the 1-year-old pig and 2-year-old sheep Monday after they wandered onto a woman's property in Jurupa Valley.

The officer noticed the pig and sheep appeared to be quite close, so they were placed in a pen together at the Riverside County Animal Shelter's barn.

The department posted a video to YouTube showing the pair's friendship in action.

"They liked to cuddle together a lot," the YouTube post said. "The shelter will hold the two until the rightful owner shows up to reclaim their pets. If not, the two will be re-homed as a pair, or transferred to one of Riverside County Animal Services rescue-group partner groups."
