Owners Bessie and Gus Karalis investigated the sound of shattered glass about an hour after the cafe opened on Monday morning.
"It crossed (U.S.) 41 and jumped straight through the window," their son Nickita Karalis told The Times of Northwest Indiana. "Next thing they know they've got a deer charging at them."
The Karalis family and a handful customers witnessed the deer running through the restaurant and charging toward a counter.
No one in the restaurant was injured in the frenzy as the deer eventually burst through another window as it left the cafe.
Karilis arrived after the incident to help board up the broken windows and said the deer may have been intrigued by the smell of his parents' food.
"It must have smelled some good food, I'm assuming," he said.
