Woman uses $20 Virginia Lottery winnings to buy $175,000 ticket

WILLIAMSBURG, Va., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- A Virginia woman who won $20 on a pair of scratch-off lottery tickets decided to try her luck again and spent the money buying a ticket that won her $175,000.

Gela Jolliff of Williamsburg told Virginia Lottery officials she won $20 on a pair of scratch-off lottery tickets and she cashed them in at a Mercury Entertainment store in Hampton, where she decided to spend the winnings on more lottery tickets.

Jolliff's new tickets included a Lucky Loot Tripler scratcher, which turned out to be a winner worth $175,000.

Jolliff, an accounting student, said she plans to use her newfound fortune to take care of her family.
