PROVINCETOWN, Mass., Aug. 31 (UPI) -- A father and his son had a close encounter with a great white shark while boating on a beach in Massachusetts.

James Gibbons shared video of him and his son Jake watching the massive shark, which they estimated to be about 20 feet long as it circled their boat for about 15 minutes

"When I saw it coming towards me, its eyes were just pointed to the side so you couldn't see any of its eyes. But you could see it's white and just the nose was coming right at you," Jake told CBS Boston.

Jake was excited to report their findings on the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy's shark tracking app Sharktivity, while his father was more concerned with making sure the two didn't wind up as the shark's dinner.

The Boston Globe reports several shark sightings have occurred near Race Point beach, including one close to the shore line which prompted the beach to be closed for an hour.
