BEVERLY, Mass., Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Police in Massachusetts helped rescue a newborn kitten that had climbed into the undercarriage of a parked car.

The Beverly Police Department shared photos of the 8-week-old kitten that had become trapped underneath the vehicle and was suffering from heatstroke.

"Thanks to a quick response by Beverly Police Officers and Beverly Animal Control this 8 week old cat was rescued from under the muffler in the undercarriage of a vehicle," police wrote.

Kevin Harutunian, Beverly mayor's chief of staff, told Salem News the kitten crawled underneath a silver sedan parked outside of a local restaurant and entered the engine through the muffler.

A tow truck arrived at the scene to help lift the truck in order to provide better access for police and Animal Control Officer Matt Lipinski to pull the kitten out.

Lapinski was able to free the kitten, believed to be a stray, and send it for treatment.

"It was admitted to a veterinary clinic in Peabody suffering from heatstroke and is in the process of recovering," he said.
