Canadian fishing tour catch 600-pound 'Pig Nose' fish

LYTTON, British Columbia, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- A fishing tour guide and his guests captured a massive 600-pound sturgeon while out on a tour in Canada.

River Monster Adventures shared photos of guide Nick McCabe, 19, and the 10 foot long fish known in the area as "Pig Nose."

"Do you believe in monsters? We sure do! Our guide Nick McCabe and guests brought this monster in last night," the tour company wrote.

Fellow guide Jeff Grimolfson told Global News the fish has inhabited the water for nearly 80 years and had become a legend for its uniquely shaped nose.

"His name is Pig Nose and you can see why – he damaged his nose 40 years ago," he said. "This fish has been the talk of fishing and sporting goods shops for years."

Grimolfson said that a tag and microchip helped assure the crew of the fish's identity in addition to its trademark nose.

He added that despite the high profile nature of the capture, Pig Nose was processed in the same manner as any other fish.

"Take some photos, videos, scan the fish with a scanner to see if he's been tagged then as soon as it beeps, we know it's been tagged," he said. "Take some measurements, make sure the fish is healthy then let him go."
