NEWPORT, Ore., Aug. 24 (UPI) -- An Oregon police department captured a loose pig reported wandering city streets and nearly adopted the animal as the department's official mascot.

The Newport Police Department tweeted a photo Tuesday of the pig captured by officers along the bayfront in Newport.

"Did you lose your pig? No, not another cop/pig joke. Seriously. We have your pig," the tweet said.

The department also posted a video to YouTube of the small pig, which officers nicknamed "Mr. Boombastic," being taken to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter.

"Secretly hoping no one claims #MrBoombastic so we can officially adopt him as our Dept mascot," the department tweeted.

Sadly, the situation was not meant to be and the pig, named ChalkO, was reunited with its owner Tuesday afternoon.

"#MrBoombastic and owner have been reunited. Our search for an official mascot continues," the department wrote on Twitter.
