EMERSON, N.J., July 29 (UPI) -- A 13-year-old boy fishing with his dad on New Jersey's Long Beach Island reeled in an estimated 250-pound shark with his rod.

Gianni Mandile, 13, of Emerson, was fishing with his dad Sunday morning when he hooked what he immediately guessed to be a shark.

"I started reeling it in and it didn't really feel that big at first. And then once I got closer to shore, I felt the head moving so I knew it was something different," the boy told cable network News 12.

Joseph Mandile, the teen's father, said he initially disagreed with his son's guess and thought the creature on the other end of the line was a sting ray.

However, the fish's tail soon came into video, making it clear they were dealing with a shark.

The pair were able to land the shark, and a video of the capture was posted to Facebook.

The father and son released the shark after taking some photos.
