Caleb Johnson of La Cueva VFD Sandoval County District 5 said in a Facebook post he and some fellow volunteer firefighters were washing their engine July 21 in Los Alamos when a bear popped out of the top of a passing garbage truck. The garbage truck driver was alerted to the bear's presence and pulled up next to a tree, which the animal happily climbed to escape its truck-top perch. "That one time we were out washing the engine and a bear jumped out of a garbage truck... Good time," Johnson wrote.
