KAWASAKI, Japan, July 27 (UPI) -- Movie monster Godzilla put in a bizarre performance at a Japanese soccer game, attempting -- and failing -- to make a penalty shot using its tail.

Godzilla, or more accurately an actor wearing a Godzilla costume, made an appearance on the pitch ahead of a J-league match between Kawasaki Frontale and FC Tokyo to promote the July 29 release of new film Godzilla: Resurgence.

The movie monster attempted to swat the ball toward the goal, tended by Kawasaki's mascot, with his tail by spinning his body, but missed the ball completely.

Japanese actor Hiroki Hasegawa, one of the film's human stars, lent Godzilla a helping foot and kicked the ball into the goal.
