GILLAM, Manitoba, July 26 (UPI) -- A bear who spent more than a month wandering around a hydro electric energy and natural gas utility site in Canada was airlifted away from the site after refusing to leave.

Manitoba Hydro shared photos of the bear's relocation as a helicopter safely carried the stubborn animal away from the Keewatinohk Converter Station near Gillam.

"We trapped, sedated, and safely airlifted a black bear across the Nelson River," they wrote.

Manitoba Hydro spokesperson Bruce Owen told the CBC that the bear, which they believed to be about two years old, had been wandering around the construction site since June 13.

"This bear was reluctant to leave and was often found wandering the work areas and our lodge, where people are living," Owen said. "The people up there became a little bit concerned that the bear was hanging around too much."

Crews trapped and tranquilized the bear before placing it in a net and carrying it across the river to a less populated area where the bear could "go on to do what bears do" Owen said.
