CHATHAM, Mass., July 19 (UPI) -- A man fishing in a Massachusetts tournament captured footage of a great white shark swimming near the surface nearby and approaching his boat.

Jay Goodwin said he was fishing in a tournament Saturday on a boat three miles east of Chatham with his son, Corey, and friends Drew Austin and Paul Doel when they spotted the great white shark nearby.

Goodwin said the shark disappeared, but he was ready with his video camera when the shark made a second appearance about 10 minutes later.

The video, which Goodwin posted to YouTube, shows the shark's dorsal fin appear in the water and slowly make its way toward the vessel, until the shark's entire massive body can be seen through the water.

The sighting occurred on the same day two Massachusetts beaches were closed due to great white sightings.

The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy said its been a busy summer for great white sharks in the Cape Cod area, with researchers tagging six of the ocean creatures so far this season.
