WOODBURY, Minn., June 29 (UPI) -- A Minnesota driver's dashcam captured a motorcyclist hitting a foam pad that fell from another vehicle and evading serious injury thanks to his brand-new jacket.

Linda Leverty's dashboard camera was recording June 18 when the foam pad fell from a trailer that was carrying a boat in front of motorcyclist Brendan Jankowski, 20, on Interstate 94 in Woodbury.

The video shows Jankowski attempt to dodge to the right of the object, but it travels in the same direction and ends up acting as a jump for the man's motorcycle.

The bike is momentarily airborne and the rider is thrown after it lands back on the road and falls sideways.

"I didn't want to just swerve and possibly hit a car and get run over so I tried to get to the furthest part of the right of my lane," Jankowski told KMSP-TV. "I checked to see if the [next] lane was clear, and you know the rest."

Jankowski said he avoided serious injuries thanks to his motorcycle jacket, which he had purchased less than an hour before the crash.

"I just bought the jacket that day thinking I'd come back next week and get the gear and have the full set," Jankowski said. "I happened to use the jacket I just bought to help save me quite a bit of pain."

Police said the SUV pulling the trailer did not stop and the driver might not have noticed the foam pad had fallen. Investigators are working to identify the vehicle and its driver.
