Diet Coke and Mentos rocket flies 40 yards to hit filmer's face

TOCCOA, Ga., June 9 (UPI) -- A homemade rocket mixing Diet Coke and Mentos took an unexpected turn when the bottle flew 40 yards and struck the woman filming in the face.

The video, uploaded to YouTube by user AblackBrothersProduction, shows a group of people in Toccoa, Ga., attempting to launch a plastic bottle by filling it with Diet Coke, adding Mentos and throwing it cap-first into the ground.

A woman's voice can be heard saying the stunt is taking place too far away and encouraging the man throwing the bottle to toss it toward the onlookers, but the man filming encourages the other man not to listen.

The man with the bottle tosses it into the air, causing it to land-cap first as planned.

However, the bottle launches directly toward a group of onlookers.

The video shifts to footage filmed by a woman standing with the crowd, and the projectile crashes directly into the camera she was using to film.

The uploader said the woman was struck in the mouth by the bottle, but wasn't seriously injured.
