WASHINGTON, June 8 (UPI) -- A chicken received a rude awakening when its owner discovered it "sleeping" face down in his backyard.

Fred Eaton shared video of his chicken with its legs sticking up from a pile of grass before poking it several times in an attempt to wake it up.

"I caught my chicken sleeping on the job," Eaton titled the video.

After a few inquisitive pokes from Eaton the chicken placed itself upright and began running around the yard and clucking.

Eaton went on to clarify that the chicken was not harmed in any way, but simply remained still in the pile of grass because it was unable to see.

"The chicken was OK," he wrote. "I had placed it down on its head, and since it could not see it stayed there. It is a common thing for chickens."
