SUGAR LAND, Texas, May 31 (UPI) -- A city in Texas erected a sculpture of two young girls taking a selfie in the middle of the town's square.

Sugar Land Parks and Recreation shared a photo of the bronze sculpture, which depicts two young girls posing for a photo on one of their camera phones.

According to a press release, the sculpture is part of a series of several sculptures that was donated by a resident and approved by the City Council and other organizations in 2014.

"Sugar Land recently installed two sculptures in Sugar Land Town Square's public plaza – part of a 10-piece collection donated by a Sugar Land resident to the city through the Sugar Land Legacy Foundation," the press release stated.

The other sculpture depicts a man playing a guitar and both are meant to depict "activities common in the plaza."

Sugar Land's cultural arts manager Lindsay Davis told KTRH that the sculptures were not paid for with public money and assured that the selfie sculpture was consistent with the overall theme of the project.

"People seem to be very focused on selfies, but it is part of the larger sculpture donation, so I think seeing it in the context of the full donation will probably please people," Davis said.
