SYDNEY, May 27 (UPI) -- An Australian man attempted to show off his athleticism by running up an escalator in front of a cheering crowd at a Sydney train station.

Instagram user Johnny Liew shared the video of the man, who wore his hair in a mullet, running against the downward-moving escalator at Kings Cross train station.

Members of the crowd on the opposite side of the escalator can be heard shouting words of encouragement to the man as he attempted the feat.

After traveling up a section of the escalator and struggling to press onward for a few moments the man ultimately decided to abandon his efforts and rode the escalator down to the bottom.

His final decision quickly turned the emotions of the crowd as a collective groan can be heard as he turned around.
