WATERTON LAKES NATIONAL PARK, Alberta, May 5 (UPI) -- A visitor to a Canadian park near the U.S. border waded through frigid water to rescue a distressed coyote stranded near the base of a waterfall.

The video, uploaded to YouTube by Colin Ross, shows Ross' friend venturing into the cold water at Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta after spotting a coyote trapped in the water after apparently falling from the waterfall.

Ross' friend carefully picks up the coyote and carries the animal until they are close enough to shore for the canine to exit the water on its own.

Ross said his friend had been worried the coyote would freeze to death without assistance.
