Safari group cornered by aggressive elephants in South Africa

KRUGER NATIONAL PARK, South Africa, May 4 (UPI) -- A safari group in a South African park found themselves in a tense standoff when their vehicle was blocked by a herd of elephants.

The video, filmed in Kruger National Park, shows the safari group trapped on a dirt road by a herd of elephants showing signs of aggression toward the humans.

The elephants take up defensive poses and act as though they are preparing to charge several times during the encounter.

"When everything goes wrong: Wrong place, can't reverse; wrong time, breeding herd on the move; mother elephants protecting their calves," the filmer wrote. "Not much to do but hope for the best; just as terrifying as it looks."

The elephants eventually cleared from the road and allowed the vehicle to drive away.
