AUCKLAND, New Zealand, April 29 (UPI) -- A woman in New Zealand returned a book that she had checked out from a library more than 60 years ago.

Epsom Community Library shared a photo of the book, including the checkout slip which featured the date Dec. 17, 1948.

"A wonderful customer came to see us with a confession today! As a child she was a patron of Epsom Library until she moved out of Auckland - and accidentally took a library book with her!" The post read.

The book was returned in "excellent well-read" condition and librarian Zoe Cornelius told the Guardian that the woman would not incur any late fees on the book, because children were not charged late fees.

"She told me she had checked out the book as a child and been meaning to return it for years," Cornelius said. "She seemed a bit embarrassed but I was pleased because she said she had read and enjoyed the book many times over the decades and that made me happy – that the book had been in a good home and loved."

Had the woman been an adult when she checked the book out she would have accumulated about $17,000 in late fees.
