QUEENSLAND, Australia, April 15 (UPI) -- An Australian couple received a visit from an unexpected guest when a large and dangerous bird wandered into their home.

Photos show the wild cassowary walking through the living room of Queensland family Sue and Peter Leach.

Sue Leach told ABC News that they were familiar with the wild bird known as "Peanut," but it had never attempted to open their home before.

"He has been walking past our place, through our yard and into the rainforest for almost four years now — I think he made a wrong turn," she said.

Cassowaries are large flightless birds known for their ability to run quickly and their dangerous dagger like claw.

Despite having known the bird since it was a chick, Leach told the BBC that the bird's detour into their home sent her and her husband into a frenzy.

"Pete ducked behind the dining table and I high-tailed it out of the house. Peanut was very calm, he just wandered in and around the dining room," she said.

Peanut eventually left the home and Leach said that she and her husband were relieved that the bird didn't cause any problems.

"He didn't damage anything or knock anything over, he walked around without spotting the fruit bowl or without doing a poo, which was great," she said.

She added that she didn't think the bird had any foul intentions, but believes it simply didn't realize where it was going.

I think it was a mistake that he wandered into the house because he's never done that before," Leach said. "I think he just made a wrong turn."
