MADRID, March 30 (UPI) -- A decomposed dolphin corpse was found wrapped in wire in a city park at the center of Madrid.
Madrid police shared a photo of the heavily decayed remains and determined that it belonged to the Infraorder Cetacea and could possibly have been a dolphin.
According to The Local, the corpse was discovered near the park's cycling path by a dog walker about 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday.
The mysterious corpse measured almost five feet long and was covered in metal chicken wire.
Police confirmed that it was not taken from the nearby Madrid Zoo, which was not missing any animals.
The body was taken to Madrid's Animal Protection Center where researchers would perform tests to estimate when the animal died and confirm its species.
