LONDON, March 11 (UPI) -- A pedestrian in London captured footage of an unfortunate BMW that was pulled into the River Thames by a high tide.

Ted Stones, 18, the student who recorded the video Wednesday, said the car was apparently parked on a boat ramp at the Putney Embankment when the tide reached up and carried the BMW into the open water.

The video shows the car floating out into the river.

"It was such an odd experience. You hear of cars getting trapped in a bit of water after high tide but never being swept completely away!" Stones wrote. "The police had literally no idea what to do and stood there pretty much helpless."

Stones said the car eventually sank completely into the water.
