Dog rescued after five days stranded on the ice

SPANISH FORK, Utah, March 10 (UPI) -- Authorities in Utah said a dog that ran away from an unfamiliar house ended up stranded on the ice for five days before being rescued.

The Utah County Sheriff's Office, which posted video of the rescue to Facebook, said Sadie the dog was fished out of the icy waters of the Deer Creek Reservoir Friday, five days after she is believed to have stranded herself on the ice while running from her owner's cousin's house.

The sheriff's office, which was called to the scene by the state Department of Natural Resources, said rescuers used an air boat to reach the dog and a volunteer lifted the canine to safety.

The sheriff's office said Sadie was returned to her owner and is "doing great."
