Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe HARPERSVILLE, Ala., March 8 (UPI) -- An Alabama man will plead guilty to stealing nearly $200,000 worth of quarters while working as an employee for Brink's armored transport. According to an Alabama Department of Justice press release, Stephen Lancaster Dennis, 49, stole $196,000 in quarters belonging to Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta in 2014 while working his final weeks as a money processing manager for Brink's. Advertisement Dennis has agreed to plead guilty to the charge and pay back the full amount to Brink's, which reimbursed the bank. "What Mr. Dennis may have thought was a nickel and dime theft was, in the end, the equivalent of a major bank heist," FBI Special Agent in Charge Roger C. Stanton said. "Now, he will be a convicted felon who must repay all the stolen money." The Alabama DOJ reports that Dennis entered the Federal Reserve Bank facility on an off day to take four empty quarter bags and skids, returning them full of beads with enough quarters to cover the top of the bags. He stole a total of 784,000 quarters – weighing an estimated 9,800 pounds – between Jan. 1 and Feb. 20, 2014.
