"As far as I'm concerned, someone probably contracted some incompetent person who got our house mixed up with something similar," he said Wednesday of the pile of items that blocked his garage.
"It looks like it's the contents of somebody's house or apartment, dumped here at 4 o'clock this morning by somebody in a U-Haul truck," Pullen told the CBC. "Fortunately, we don't need the car this morning."
He soon received a call from Ontario police saying that they had pulled over a U-Haul truck for making an illegal turn while headed to his home to "fix a mistake."
The U-Haul driver told the CBC that they were set to return to Pullen's home after receiving a call from the woman whose belongings were left outside informed them that she had been scammed.
"By the time we were heading home, that's when she messaged back and said, 'You dropped off the stuff at the wrong place. It was a scam,'" driver Richard Lalonde said.
The woman, Nikki Wilson, said she was contacted by a couple in response to an ad she placed on the online classified site Kijiji. She had paid her friend to move her belongings and a cash deposit for the last month's rent before realizing she had been scammed.
"I just wanted a new start, a place to finally call home and make my own life with my family," she said. "How can people be so cruel in this world?"
