WHANGAREI, New Zealand, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- A group of friends seeking bait off the shore of New Zealand encountered a great white shark that one of the young men reached out and touched.

Hamish Clarke posted a video to Facebook showing the curious shark approaching the boat while the friends were catching live bait for a fishing competition Saturday.

One of the boat's excited occupants announces he was able to reach down and touch the shark.

"That's made my day," the young man says.

A second passenger in the boat shows more reverence for the shark's deadly capabilities.

"Don't lose your hand. Better watch out bro," he says.

Great White we saw today at the Frenchmen while getting live baits for beach and boat comp. EPIC!
