NANJING, China, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- A zoo in China marked Valentine's Day by holding a wedding ceremony for a pair of orangutans.

The Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo staged the wedding Sunday for a male orangutan brought to the zoo from Taiwan and a female brought in from Shanghai for breeding purposes.

The ceremony, which was attended by cheering members of the public, was intended to bolster the zoo's efforts to have the two orangutans reproduce.

The bride and groom were treated to their favorite fruits and vegetables while tying the knot. The zoo also decorated the enclosure for the orangutans, with paper streamers and balloons spelling out "I LOVE U" helping to set the mood.

Video from the primate nuptials shows the orangutans showing far more interest in their edible gifts than each other, but the honeymoon has only just begun!
