NEW YORK, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- A New York man who sought help on Reddit when his wife's Fitbit appeared to be malfunctioning received some unexpectedly good news -- she was pregnant.

David Trinidad, 34, said he sought advice on the subreddit dedicated to Fitbit users Friday because his wife's device was showing her heartbeat as consistently faster than her usual rate.

"I'm not sure if something is wrong with the sensor. Is there a way to reset or recalibrate the device? I'd like to try that before I contact customer service about a possible replacement," he wrote on the website.

However, he need not have worried, as one Redditor asked the question that led him to the answer: "Is it a possibility she is pregnant?"

"I was definitely very scared and very excited and felt a rush of all those emotions at once," Trinidad told CNN.

Trinidad's wife, Ivonne, 32, took several pregnancy tests that night and confirmed she was carrying a passenger in her womb.

"Now I gotta watch my own heart rate," David Trinidad wrote on Reddit.

A Fitbit representative told Mashable the incident was the first reported case of the company's devices detecting a pregnancy.
