MORNINGTON, Australia, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- An Australian snake catcher said he was called to a Victoria childcare center to remove a venomous red-bellied black snake from a child's cot.

Barry Goldsmith posted a photo to his Snake Catcher Victoria Facebook page of the snake curled up on a child's cot for a nice nap at a Mornington Peninsula childcare center.

Goldsmith said the bed was not in use at the time of the discovery and staff members saw it while they were changing the sheets.

"They handled the situation well, stepped back, shut the doors and laid towels along the crack at the door and called me," he wrote. "The snake was very relaxed and inoffensive and still lying on the bed where it was found."

He said the snake was "in the bag" 30 minutes after it was discovered.

"It's possible a child had been eating a sandwich in the cot, which could have attracted the snake," Goldsmith told News.com.au.

He said it isn't uncommon to find the snakes in schools and childcare centers.

"They're places where you have kids and kids drop food and attract mice, which then attract snakes," he said.
